Scean and I are climbing Mt. Rainier on June 29, 2010 (6/29-7/1). The plan is to take an easy route (if such a thing exists) called, Disappointment Cleaver (AKA: DC)...

CONFIRMED AS GOING (as long as date works, yada)
 Vaughn Ripley (East Coast)
 Scean Ripley (West Coast)
 Mike Baum (West Coast)
 Sarah (Mike B's daughter)

ON THE FENCE
 Jayme Levy (East Coast)
... Bueller?

I will update this post as things change...

Here is our proposed DC schedule
(Monday - 6/28) @ 4:01 a.m. leave Scean's house for the mountain and camp in his van at Paradise (~5,000 feet);
(Tuesday - 6/29) @ 7:13 a.m. leave Scean's van and hike up to Camp Muir (~10,000 feet);
(Wednesday - 6/30) @ ~9:22 a.m. pack up and hike up to Ingraham Flats for high camp (~11,200 feet);
(Thursday - 7/1) @ ~12:02 a.m. head to the summit (14,411 feet) and then return home...

You can't count on the airlines getting you here on time.
You can't count on the weather.
You can't count on good snow.

But you can count on me.
For whatever you need.

Well done! I was wondering when you were getting back out here.

Here's a picture of the mountain from Paradise. This was taken a couple of weeks ago, so our conditions in 2010 should be similar...

So far, this is a go! I am starting my Rainier training and will include what I'm doing in my fitness journal (under fitness/journals) on this forum.

For the most part, my training is going to consist of two days of weight training, three or four days of cardio (cross training compilation of - VersaClimber, Mountain Biking, and Running) work and everyday using the Power Lung to increase VO2Max. Soon, I will incorporate hiking into the regiment.

Who's with me??

I'm with ya cause I can run up a flight of stairs without being too out of breath...  I'll be OK with ya, right?   OK, I don't think I'm with ya   Sad

Good luck, guys.

I've done both the Schurman and Muir main routes. Both routes will be crowded but Schurman will be less crowded, for what it's worth.

Also, it helped me acclimate to the altitude by driving up the night before the expedition and sleeping in my car at Paradise.

Our climbing permits have been purchased and our group is set in stone. It will be Scean, Mike, Sarah, and me.
