All this icy cold weather and talk of snow has me pumped up for one of my favorite winter events: The Winter Olympics!
2/12/10
What's your favorite event? Any key players to watch?

1. hockey 2. freestyle snowboarding
I went and saw both of these events live in Park City (Salt Lake City) Utah... Bad ass!!!
Everyone should go to the Olympics at least once... hmm. gotta add Summer to bucket list...
Update: I went to my bucket list and found it is already there... I know myself better than I think I do... HA! I rule!

I love the biathlon. Ski really far, really fast, then drop and shoot. Get up and repeat! I also like downhill skiing, in all the various versions. Something about watching guys plummet at rediculous speeds over frozen turf. ...And CURLING! Who could forget CURLING! Everyone should go to the Olympics at least once...
...Already on there!

Curling (the big puck AKA: stone and sweepers) is just too much violence on ice and should be banned for all that fighting man if someone got hit with that puck... oh that's going to leave a mark you bet-cha. I like the calm easy going back and forth of HOCKEY.
Also woman's figure skating, cause I'm a guy and those little tight outfits during the camel and other moves that.... Oh I digress.
The high ski jumping or whatever it's called. Like 2 miles up (ok I not that high) they're like flying creating an airfoil out of their bodies. Oh and when there's a little crosswind gust and they get all wacked out and crash... almost as good as a NASCAR pileup without the metal crunching sounds or fire - can't have everything.
What's with that 2-man luge (sp?) where one man lays on top of another man... OK who thought that one up.
Biathlon is too long but cool. However would be more interesting if they were shooting at moving targets with bigger guns. How about team cross-country skiing capture-the-flag with paint-ball guns in combined woods and open fields!! Oh yeh baby!
Outside Platform diving (just the tallest platform, lower would be boring) would be cool but medal winners would have to be awarded posthumously

I did not state the "toe" part and wasn't even thinking it! (but mojo for you thinking that way and making me 2nd guess myself and look at my orig post - Yep I can hear you now... Made-you-look) The camel is a spinning move with one leg up started I believe by Dorthy Hammel (sp?) move is AKA Hammel Camel (again sp?) So as it turns out, I was thinking dirty, but you and that toe thought, your even dirtier or more explicit! LOL

There is nothing I enjoy more in sports than the winter games. To me, it is the purest expression of competition for the sheer joy of athletic achievement. It surpasses every other sporting event due to the lack of profit motive and commercial manipulation and rewards only superior performance. Where else on earth does one find this?
We had planned to go to these games, but the bad economy and family issues have kept us back. One of my major items left on my Bucket List is to attend a winter games....maybe next time.

"...and Wescott takes the gold!"
I love listening to the announcer when that guy snowboards. Can't quite put my finger on why.

Anyone see that kid Shaun White fly last night? HOLY DUMP!!! He's already secured Gold with his first run (with a 46.8/50... already a nearly impossible score), and said "I'm going for it" doing some tricks nobody has ever done before, or even thought was possible. This "Double-McTwist 1260" he did was out of this world!
And Lindsey Vonn on skis.... that girl was trucking! 1.8 miles down the hill in 1:44... that's like 62mph average. The course was pure ice, and there were some really spectacular crashes. The ski run made me think of races like hte Baja 1000 where the guys drive right on the edge of breaking loose and crashing phenomenally, cause that's the only way to win.
And of course, Shani Davis, the repeat US gold medalist in 1000m speed skating. WOOT! Behind at the halfway mark, he turned on the juice to ram home the win. 1000m in 1:08.94! (average of 32mph... got to be going 40mph at the end!). And made all the better by a little 3-year old shouting "Go Shani Davis! Skate faster! GO! GO! GO! U! S! A! GO! GO! GO!!!"
God bless America!

Amen! A great night for American athletes! Shaun White is like watching Tiger play golf - NObody can do what White can on a snowboard - he is a lightyear or two ahead of everyone else!

I can't believe there isn't something up here on the U.S. hockey team's unbelievable win last night... That was AWESOME! First time we have beat Canada in like 50 years! And, did anyone see Ovechkin's hit on Jagr? WOW! He broke his freaking visor!!! I can't find any video of the hit, but it was unreal! So effing pissed off. To have Crosby be the one to score that OT goal makes me even more bitter that I hope the bastard gets capped in the knee or something.
